It is important to acknowledge that real teambuilding does not occur in a single day. Nor is there one simple workshop module that causes substantial change. Teambuilding requires practice. It requires a commitment to setting aside the time needed to establish foundational dynamics. 

Ignoring this aspect of training & development is paramount to wishful thinking and fuzzy maths. You might get lucky or you might waste a ton of time, damage the team dynamic, and end up creating a mess.

Hancock Timber Program Plan:

Team Overview: The Team is a mixture of seasoned members (6) and new people (10) who have been working together over the last 2-3 years.

Objectives: To foster team-wide connectivity through focused training and development associated with communications preferences, personality temperament, leadership skills, change management skills, and self-awareness development.

13 workshops.

#1. True Colors, Essentials, Road Map (5-7 hours) True Colors is a tool used to develop a deeper understanding of communications preferences within the team. In combination with a Road Map module, we propose to use this initial workshop as a foundation for all the following workshops.

#2. True Colors, Essentials, Road Map – followup (4-6 hours) The Second True Colors workshop is a quick followup on the first workshop and is designed to further embed the tools within team members and to encourage daily use as a cornerstone for the building of the team’s dynamics. This workshop should be conducted within 2 weeks of the initial workshop.

#3. Advanced TC (Focus on Communication) (4-6 hours) This Advanced TC workshop dives even deeper into the mechanisms that help and hurt teams. Focusing on communication, this is a significant step in the formation of the new team dynamic.

#4. In-depth Essentials Workshop (5-7 hours) The Essentials Workshop is an all day exploration of the team members opinions, views, beliefs as they relate to what is required to develop and maintain a healthy team environment.

#5. Advanced TC (Focus on Team building) (4-6 hours) This Advanced TC workshop is an in-depth exploration of the team’s ability to collaborate, problem solve, negotiate, and build consensus as it relates to decision making, and strategic thinking.

#6. Fundamentals of Team Dynamics & Problem Solving (4-6 hours) This workshop builds on the groundwork laid by the proviso workshop. With the True Colors concepts well established, we can now explore in greater details the hurdles, obstacles, successes, and triumphs of the team’s ability to quickly join together to tackle challenging initiatives.

#7. Conflict & Change Management (4-6 hours) The CCM workshop is designed to provide team members with communication tools for managing inter and intra personal roadblocks as they relate to open honest dialog with peers.

#8. Playday (4-6 hours) We propose a day of play to reward the team for their hard work and to encourage a bit of competition as they make use of their team skills. Our Build-A-Boat Race would be well suited to the unique personalities of the team. Prepare to have a lot of fun and get very very wet.

#9. Essential Leadership Workshop (4-6 hours) The Essential Leadership workshop is a unique training environment where we’ll explore concepts from Peter Lencioni and Bruce Conching as they relate to management of self.

#10. Team Skills Workshop – dynamics and problem solving followup Our Team Skills Workshop is a followup to the problem solving workshop. In it, we’ll further explore team dynamics and collaboration through hands-on initiatives.

#11. Playday (4-6 hours) Another day of play, but this time we’d like to bring everyone up to our adventure park in Woodinville for a day of climbing and challenges that are sure to produce a lot of laughter.

#12. True Colors review and application (4-6 hours) The final True Colors workshop is a review of what impact, lessons, and applications team members have found for the knowledge they’ve gained.

#13. Review of Road Map and Essentials Progress (4-6 hours) Final review of the road map and team essentials progress.

This planned workshop series spaces sessions out over 2 years with meetings every 2 months.

AmeriCorps Program Plan:

Objectives: To foster team-wide connectivity through focused training and development associated with communications preferences, personality temperament, leadership skills, change management skills, and self-awareness development.
