A Word About Adventura

A Word About Adventura

We create team building experiences that get people working together instead of just talking about it.

Adventura is a small, friendly, and experienced company that prides itself on developing teambuilding programs that provide teams and leaders with meaningful experiences and help participants play, learn, and grow into themselves better. We believe any investment in team building – be it new team formation, morale building, or management development – should be fun while producing meaningful results.

Adventura challenges teams and leaders with experiences that explore the foundations of leadership, communication and teamwork while inviting creativity, collaboration, and personal growth as part of a journey towards developing self-awareness and strong leadership skills.

Our methods are experiential – that means fun, mentally stimulating, and hands-on. We believe teaming is all about self-awareness and authenticity on the individual level. We help teams discover that entirely new levels of collaboration are within reach through practice, commitment, innovation, and compassion. Adventure Learning stems from the idea that people learn most when they are actively involved in their learning, feel a sense of control over what they are learning, find a relevancy in concepts they are exploring, and are provided with opportunities for reflection on the experience to make connections with other life aspects and future learning.

Team Building Basics

What is Teaming?

Team•ing | v. tr. To join together so as to form a team.
Teaming is about changing the way people feel, think and act; to gain awareness of needs; to add knowledge of new concepts; to understand new ways of looking at old or familiar concepts. The teaming process consists of a presenting a sequence of experiences/activities to a team of people with the express purpose of challenging their existing abilities, dynamics, and personalities. Additionally, the unique experiences promote rich and valuable dialog between team members and fuels the learning process. This process creates an environment where people interact authentically and encourages participants to collaborate while practicing new skills, learning from their mistakes and developing a stronger understanding of how they work together as well as how they effect each other as they strive to truly be a team.

What kind of Activities?
Our high-energy experiences use group games and initiatives to quickly explore new skills, tools and language while building upon the existing knowledge of team members. Activities combine hands on learning with critical soft skills by engaging people on multiple levels. Games, for instance, are developed to produce situations wherein participants feel challenged, motivated, and curious. Initiatives provide more complex situations wherein participants are challenged to think creatively and identify behaviors as well as skills that help move the team towards a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Portability –  Adventura programs are highly adaptable and very portable. In fact, we can setup adventure learning workshops just about anywhere you choose to gather or bring your team to our facility located in Woodinville, WA. Getting Started – we encourage you to think about what your goals and objectives are for your event, conference or meeting. What were some of the reasons you began your search for teambuilding? What do you want to happen as a result of bringing your people together for an experience?

Challenge Course

What is a Challenge Course?

Drawing from a history of wilderness experience, the modern challenge course was developed in order to implement a wilderness type experience in a fixed setting. The result of which is a series of obstacles and physical challenges that can either be located on or close to the ground (low course) or at height on utility poles (high course).

The “low” challenge course refers to a variety of ground-based activities that challenge the way people work together in an effort to help them learn new skills and expand their understanding of team dynamics. The single most common function of any challenge course experience is that it provides an intact group with an experience that results in team members coming together to share in the experience, and that a curriculum is designed for the specific outcome desired by that group.

The “high” challenge course refers to a network of obstacles constructed of wood and cables designed for group participation, that, on our state-of-the-art static high challenge course, are located 45 to 50 feet above ground. The aim of the high challenge course is to present challenging situations to participants in order to create change and help participants to learn about the dynamics of individual and group behavior. Challenge courses, high or low, are designed to take participants out of their standard frame of reference and asked to participate in unusual and attractive activities that focus on areas such as group problem solving, communication, the value of diversity and insight skills.

Challenge Course FAQ

Ropes Courses Safety

At Adventura, safety comes first. Our ropes course is designed by experienced industry experts to maximize the excitement and minimize the risk. By definition, adventures have inherent risks, both real and perceived. Our ropes course risk management plan begins with a design that enhances the perceived risk and controls the real risk. Our ropes courses are constructed by builders certified by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), the leader in research, design, and construction of ropes courses. An ACCT certified builder inspects all carabiners, belay devices, harnesses, and helmets each year, along with all components of low and high elements. Additionally, we visually inspect our equipment regularly.

What is the difference between low and high challenge course elements?

With Low Challenge Course elements, the focus is on the team. These activities draw on the knowledge and ideas of every group member and require the participation and cooperation of the entire team for success. The High Challenge Course elements provide further opportunities for teamwork with an additional emphasis on individual challenges.

The High Challenge Course provides opportunities for participants to expand their comfort zones, (sometimes dramatically) and overcome fears that can block personal development and achievement. Adventura’s approach encourages interaction on the high elements through the creation of travel groups and the buddy system.

Do I have to be in good shape?

Everyone can participate on Adventura’ challenge courses, regardless of physical ability or athletic experience. There are no failures on the challenge course. Adventura uses a challenge by choice approach so that each participant measures success by his or her own aspirations.

What if I am afraid of heights?

Fear and anxiety play a role in everyone’s life on some level. It’s normal to be afraid of the unknown and certainly everyone has questions when they arrive at the high challenge course facility. Will I be able to do this? Am I strong enough? Will others think poorly of me if I can’t? I don’t want to be embarrassed. I don’t want to slow others down. I don’t want to be a burden on anyone. These are but a few of the thoughts that race through the mind when faced with the unknown of the challenge course. Amazingly enough, it is also these very thoughts and fears that make the challenge course such a powerful experience for groups that are truly committed towards creating a healthy and united community.

Knowing, hearing, and seeing people do things that they are not masters of, or that they are fearful of, taps into a level of group dynamics and team development that 9 out of 10 teams never discuss or face. By going through a challenging experience together, the team discovers a deeper level of unity and forms a stronger bond as a community. When compassion becomes a primary component of a teaming experience it serves to build entirely new levels of commitment, trust, and authenticity between people.

What if the weather is bad the day of our teambuilding program?

Typically challenge course team building teambuilding programs go rain or shine. In the event of lightning or high winds we will take a break to see if the weather clears. Participants report that inclement weather actually added to the excitement and level of adventure of their challenge course team building teambuilding program.

How long does a high challenge course teambuilding program take?

Depending on your goals, objectives, and team size, teambuilding programs that include the high challenge course range from 4 hours (half day) to 8 hours (full day).

How much do challenge course teambuilding programs cost?

Depending on your goals, objectives, and team size, teambuilding programs can cost as little as $75 per person or as much as $475 per person. It all comes down to figuring out what results you’re after.
